Custom Branding in Canopy allows you to customize your clients' web portal as well as outgoing emails and invoices. Admin users will see a set of customization options. Basic users will not see these options. This article will cover 5 sections:

Customizing Your Domain
Permissions and Licenses Required
- License: Custom Branding
- Permissions: Admin
Admin users can customize the domain name for your practice's client portal. Customizing the domain name for your client portal site will display [your domain].clientportal.com, letting your clients know they are accessing your customized site. To get started, click the drop-down arrow in-line with your Canopy name.
- Click Account Settings.
- Click Custom Branding.
- Enter your desired Domain in the field provided.
- If your domain is available, a green checkmark will display in the field.
- When selecting a domain, be aware:
- If you change your domain, your clients will be redirected from your previous domain to the new one for 30 days.
- You will not be permitted to edit your domain during these 30 days.
- Click Save Changes at the bottom of the screen.
- Continue to customizing your Logo Image, if preferred.
Customizing Your Logo Image
Permissions and Licenses Required
- License: Custom Branding
- Permissions: Admin
Your customized logo image will appear on the login page of your Client Portal as well as within the portal itself. Additionally, logo images can be included in emails and invoices sent from Canopy on behalf of your practice. To get started, click the drop-down arrow in-line with your Canopy name.
- Click Account Settings.
- Click Custom Branding.
- Click Upload new.
Requirements for an Uploaded Logo Image
- The only file types accepted are:
- .jpg
- .jpeg
- .png
- The maximum file size for a logo image is 500 KB.
- If the image is smaller than 156px wide x 56px high, it will be stretched to fit those minimum dimensions.
- If the image is larger than 320px wide x 64px high, your image will be scaled down to those maximum dimensions.
- If possible, upload a larger image that can be scaled down for the best results.
- The only file types accepted are:
- If needed, check the Use logo on invoices checkbox to include your image on all outgoing invoices.
- Click Remove to remove the image.
- Click Remove to remove the image.
- Click Save changes at the bottom of the Custom Branding screen to save your logo image.
- If you prefer, continue to the Select a color section before saving any changes
Selecting a Branding Color
Permissions and Licenses Required
- License: Custom Branding
- Permissions: Admin
Your selected color will enhance your practice's Client Portal, emails, and invoices sent out from Canopy. You can customize your branding color by either selecting from a set of pre-loaded choices or entering specific hex numbers. To get started, click the drop-down arrow in-line with your Canopy name.
- Click Account Settings.
- Click Custom Branding.
- Select a color from the available options.
- Click Custom to further customize your color selection.
- Click and drag the color selector along the gradient scale.
- Alternatively, copy & paste a hex # in the Color Code field.
- Click Select.
- Click Save changes at the bottom of the Custom Branding screen to save your logo image.
- If you prefer, you can continue on to customizing your welcome message before saving your changes.
Customizing Your Welcome Message

- Permissions: Admin
Customizing the welcome message displays a custom text to your clients in the Client Portal. To get started, click the drop-down arrow in-line with your Canopy name.
- Click Account Settings.
- Click Custom Branding.
- Enter your preferred greeting in the Welcome Message.
- Enter any additional messaging in the included field for the body text.
- These two fields come pre-populated with the following text:
- Good [afternoon, morning, or evening]!
- Welcome to [Your practice name] client portal.
- These two fields come pre-populated with the following text:
- Click Save changes at the bottom of the Custom Branding screen to save your logo image.
- If you prefer, continue on to customizing the Client Portal login experience.
Potential Errors
It may be that your customized branding color makes it difficult to read text. When selecting the color in the gradient pop up window, you will see a warning if your color section has a low contrast ratio. If you encounter this warning, you can try:
- Click and drag the selector on the gradient scale to a selection with better contrast ratio.
- The warning will not display if your color has a good contrast ratio.
If you discontinue use of Canopy's Custom Branding tools, you can expect to see:
- Discontinued use of your custom domain.
- You will need to direct clients to Canopy's client portal login experience.
- Discontinued use of your custom colors and logo images on all outgoing emails and invoices.
